Announcing Lightning Talks and Speaker Deadline Extension

Josepha Haden

After considerable debate the organizing team has decided to do something we have never done before at WordCamp NYC and that is offer Lightning Talks. We sincerely hope that adding this new session format to our program will enable WordCamp NYC to offer a wider variety of subjects and give our attendees a revolutionary experience. Therefore, we have decided to:

Extend the submission deadline for speakers to 12am EDT (that’s 2400 a.k.a midnight) on Sunday, May 15th

If this interests you, then just click the Lightening Talk checkbox when submitting the form. Remember a Lightning Talk is a topic presented in 10 minutes! FollowUp discussion and questions are always welcome outside the session room.

Enter Your Submission!

Not sure what to submit for your proposal? Check out these examples!

This will be your last chance to submit a proposal! Take advantage of the new deadline and submit a proposal to speak at WordCamp NYC today!

  1. The limitation on bags — Security regulations limit the size of bags and backpacks- all items must be smaller than 14″ wide X 13″ high X 4″ deep. — seems to preclude a 15 or 17″ laptop or laptop bag. Am I misunderstanding this?

    1. Hi Andrew,

Unfortunately, those are the bag restrictions set by the UN and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. For a full list of what is and is not allowed, you can refer to their Security page.

I wouldn’t be able to tell you if a laptop bag may or may not be allowed through, so my recommendation would be to call the UN’s Public Inquiry line at 1-212-963-4475. They would be better able to let you know if they would allow a laptop bag.
